Spouses and Dependents
- The Post 9/11 GI Bill (Ch. 33)
The Post 9/11 GI Bill is available to servicemembers that have served at least 90 days of active duty after 9/11/2001. This program includes money to pay for tuition and fees, a stipend for books and supplies, and a housing allowance.*
If you served 36 months** on active duty, you could be entitled to funding for:
Tuition and fees
- Up to $28,937.09 for tuition and fees (this amount is set annually by the VA)
- Students at the 100% level are automatically enrolled in the Yellow Ribbon Program which covers any additional tuition and fee charges to go beyond the annual amount set by the VA.
Books & Supplies
- Up to $1,000.00/ year paid out at $41.67 per credit.
Monthly Housing Allowance
- Rates vary by campus and full time status

- Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship
Spouses and children of servicemembers who passed away while serving may be eligible for the Fry Scholarship. Recipients of the Fry Scholarship are entitled to the same benefits available under the Post 9/11 GI Bill at the 100% level, including Yellow Ribbon.
- Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance DEA (CH 35)
DEA is an educational assistance program available to children and spouses of veterans that are permanently and totally disabled, have passed away due to service-connected disability, or are captured/missing in action. This program pays a monthly stipend based on the number of courses you are taking directly to you. The current maximum amount for a full-time student is $1,535.00/mo.
